As you probably know, roots are the parts of your plants that are underground. They serve three main purposes: (1) they anchor the plant in the soil, (2) they absorb water, minerals and nutrients from the spaces between soil particles, (3) they act as part of the plant's transport system.
(1) is self-explanatory. As for (2), here's a little further explanation: the main reason that roots are able to absorb so well is because of root hairs, which grow behind the root tip. This allows maximum absorption of vital substances.
Further explanation of (3): xylem* carries water and minerals from the roots to the stem and leaves, and phloem* carries nutrients from the leaves to all parts of the root system.
*xylem and phloem are the two types of transport tissues.

Ohhh myyyy! I can't waittt for my little seedlings to sprout from beneath the top grade soil I gave them! I'm not gonna lie, I have dedicated soo much of my time and devotion to make sure that they come out just right... I am planning on growing my own exotic plants in a green house environment that I am almost done building for them, but soon it will be the new talk of my town without a doubt. I love plants and I believe that if the people in this world each individually just added one plant of their choice, this planet would most definitely be a more beautiful place! :)
Ahhh, the first sprouts always bring a smile to my face. There's nothing like seeing that healthy, green sprout amongst the vast brown soil. Your greenhouse garden sounds like it will bring a great season for you! I wish you the best of luck!
